Despite the current Bluetooth limitations in the Google Android SDK, in early 2009 we've developed a first version of our Bluetooth Keyboard driver for Android. It was an OEM Project targetting a major hardware manufacturer, and it wasn't released to end users. The initial version also required root priviledges, so it needed extra skills to be used on normal Android devices.
Almost a year after, some considerable development progress has been made and we're now announcing the Teksoft BlueInput for Android, a Bluetooth Driver that allows you to connect a Bluetooth Keyboard to your mobile device for increased typing speed, more productivity, and a new feel of comfort gained by using high tech all arround you. BlueInput is an advanced HID driver that totally transforms your Android into the perfect Mobile office solution by offering easy Bluetooth connectivity to Bluetooth Keyboards. And it is ready and waiting for you to try it right away.
This application is not free, but the trial version can be used as much as you want, but has a limitation on using the SPACE and ENTER keys. I'm very excited about this, but it doesn't seem to work with Sprint HTC Hero. I get to the step of scanning (after tapping in a text field) and it says that the bluetooth is not on (but it is, I was able to pair but not connect to the Freedom Universal 2 keyboard. This the same problem as another (very similar) bluetooth keyboard solution, makes me wonder if the Sprint Hero has a bug in the bluetooth stack?: Can anyone else verify the device specific issue? Edit- confirmed here on Teksoft's forums by another user: Bummer, hope this either gets fixed or our 2.1 upgrade resolves this.
The difference is that in SPP you go through our drivers and you will be able to get more functionality from the keyboard to the phone. Below is a list of shortcut key combinations that you can perform on a Freedom Pro, whilst connected to an Android device such as the Droid X, by going through the drivers.
Bye-Bye BlackBerry Thumb Since you're reading this review on CrackBerry.com, you're very likely familiar with the condition commonly referred to as 'BlackBerry Thumb.' For this reason, I won't get into too much detail, but BlackBerry Thumb comes about after excessive use of the tiny keyboard found on a wide variety of RIM devices and other smartphones. As a rule of 'thumb,' the more frequently you respond to e-mail or send messages using that tiny keyboard, the more prone to the condition you are. What's the best way to avoid BlackBerry thumb, you ask?
Well, reducing the amount of typing you're doing is probably your best bet. If that's not an option, or at least one you're willing to consider, increasing the size of your keyboard is sure to help. Constant use of any keyboard can potentially lead to hand and wrist pain, possibly even to over time, but if you need to type frequently, you're much better off with a larger keyboard. In comes the, which is. The keyboard connects to your BlackBerry via Bluetooth and makes for a great way to handle inbox maintenance and rapid messaging. It's about the size of an average laptop keyboard and is a great alternative to the small keyboard found on your device. Should you rush to the CrackBerry shop right now to get one?
